Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish blog with a different top ten list theme (all related to books) every Tuesday (see the full list here
Confession: I don't read many sequels, only about 3 a year. So my list is short and a little... unconventional.
1. Lirael, by Garth Nix, sequel to Sabriel. This one surprised me because it introduced new main characters and the main characters from the first book only played bit parts, except for Mogget the cat (or is he a cat?)
2. The Iron Knight, by Julie Kagawa. This was actually the fourth and last book in the Iron Fey series, but this is the only series I've read where the books just kept getting better and better.
3. Shadowscale, sequel to Seraphina, by Rachel Hartman. Totally cheating here since this won't even be out until February 2014! But there you go, I can't wait for this sequel.
4. Ebon, the sequel to Pegasus, by Robin McKinley. Not due out until an unspecified time in 2014. Ack!!! been waiting since 2011 for this sequel!
5. The Unbound, sequel to the Archived by Victoria Schwab. January 2014 - at least this one has a cover!!! I love the title, too.
Bonus: I've read the first book in the Temeraire series (His Majesty's Dragon) by Naomi Novik and loved it. LOVED IT!!! Haven't gotten to any others in the series but I am so happy I have more regency-era dragons to read about... this is the case where I don't want to rush into them and devour them all at once; I want to drag the pleasure out a while!
What's your favorite sequel? (book or movie - my favorite movie sequel is Empire Strikes Back, but Star Trek Into Darkness is a close second)
James' Review of SUPERHERO MOVIE (2008)

Ah, superhero movies. The greatest of our time, right next to sci-fi space
adventures and war movies. You've seen Marvel movies, and DC movies, ...

My favourite sequel has to be catching fire! here is my list: http://caitstruelife.wordpress.com/2013/09/24/top-ten-tuesday-top-ten-best-sequels-ever/
ReplyDeleteI can not WAIT until the sequel to Pegasus comes out! I am only appeased by the release of Shadows next month (or two?). And Lirael is my favourite book in the trilogy (and pretty much one of my favourites of all time)
ReplyDeleteOh yay!!! We are instant book friends! Pegasus and Lirael. And thanks for reminding me McKinley does have another book coming out soon. That appeases me somewhat
DeleteP.S. Be Eleven is my favorite sequel. Many of the ones you've listed I haven't read, but I'll have to check them out.
ReplyDeleteI'll check out Be Eleven if you check out Pegasus. Deal?? smile
DeleteMy favorite book sequels are Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Anne of Avonlea, and World without End.
ReplyDeleteIn movies, Toy Story 2 and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze!
Happy reading and writing! from Laura Marcella @ Wavy Lines
Toy Story 2 OF COURSE!!!! Reminds me, I loved Shrek 2 also. It's been ages since I've heard of the Ninja Turtles. What was so memorable about the sequel? I'm not sure i even knew there was a sequel!
DeleteI haven't read the Iron Fey series yet but a few authors seem to be consistently on these lists, Julie Kagawa being one of them.

I feel the same way about His Majesty's Dragon. I think it was you who introduced me to that awesomeness. I love it for the Horatio Hornblower style more than for the dragons though.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite sequel in recently released books is The Crown of Embers (sequel to Girl of Fire and Thorns.) My second favorite one is Dark Triumph (His Fair Assassin 2.) That's another book where the main character only plays a tiny role, and the heroine is someone else entirely.
Crown of Embers and Dark Triumph were both really good sequels. I'm reading the Bitter Kingdom right now and loving it. And so glad I was the one who introduced you to Temeraire!
DeleteGoodness, I don't think I can choose just one sequel. I read so many... I'm totally a series girl--in fact, I shun movies in favor of TV series. That's right. I'll take a TV show over a movie any day.
ReplyDeleteOkay, so what's your favorite TV series? I know what you mean, a series drags the fun out a lot longer than a movie!
DeleteTotally love the new ST movie franchise!! Aww but my all time fave book series are the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett! Take care

I want the Seraphina sequel too. That is one of those books I am going to buy right away, the day it is out. I wanted the sequel the moment I finished book one. I miss Kiggs, Phina...and the princess, but I always forget her name. And the uncle...I always forget his name too
ReplyDeleteOrma! You can't forget Orma, he's my favorite! Just kidding :)
DeleteI hadn't heard about the sequel to Seraphina. Thx for sharing that info! I can't wait to pick that one up. :)
ReplyDeleteI just bought the Abhorsen series not that long ago! LOVED Sabriel so I'm excited to read Lirael now!
